Using the Law of Attraction to Land your Next Gig

With so many project managers out of work, I thought this would be timely. We've all heard about the Law of Attraction. Basically, you get what you focus on. So what do we think about when we are out of work (or soon to be laid off)? Like most people, we update our resume hoping it is a rock star resume. We also join job networking groups and contact our PM friends to see what's happening in the market. We also might brush up on our interviewing skills and have friends help us by having them play "mock interviewer." But what do we think about during all this? Am I valuable enough? Is my resume good enough? Who will hire me? Where are the jobs? So we're more focused on "getting the job" as opposed to "having the job."

I'd like to suggest that we spend our days making lists of all the things we've liked about past jobs. List all the great people you've met. List all your accomplishments. Remember compliments you've received. List the things you liked best about your workplace.

Next, start to think about what your new job looks like. Pull out all the stops here. It's free to dream, so make this your absolute dream job. Maybe you're working in NY and making a bundle of money. Maybe you're a consultant travelling internationally. What about being the lead singer in a rock band? Talk about your next job with other people. Make it real.

If you will spend more time focused on what you do want, it will become real. This follows the "you get what you think about" philosophy. Surround yourself with happy, supportive people.

Feelings of lack, worthlessness, despair, worry will only lead you to what you do not want.

Chin up, smile and be positive. The world needs your dreams in order to grow.
